MELBOURNE, October 21

There was shpwery weather, with a large attendance, including several New Zealanders, for the third day of the Victorian Amateur Turf Club’s meeting at Caulfield. " i Maple scored a popular success in the Cup. It was the rider, Duncan’s, first Win in this race. Trainer Holt had won the cup previously with Eurythniic. Maple’s owner is Mr Lee Steere. Maple was originally raced m Western Australia, and arrived here eight months ago. It is engaged for the Melbourne Cup, and is carrying 8.13, including lOlbs penalty. Maple has won thirteen and a-half races.

Oby Hurdles.—Conjurer 9.5, 1; Berripa 9.13, 2; Quick Deal 9.7, 3. Won by two lengths ; three lengths. Ad sum fourth. Time 4.4.

Gwyn Nursery.—Weberle 7.4, 1; Sinetre 7.7, 2; Lady Deneb 7.12, 3. Won by two lengths; three lengths. Bel Rouge was fourth. Time 1.25. Wyiina Steeples.—Junot King 9.12, 1; Formidable 10.10, 2; Orange Park 9.3, 3. Won by two and a-half lengths; three lengths. Lanage was fourth. Time 4-345. ® Caulfield Cup.—Maple 8.7 (W. Duncan) 1, Black Dlrche'ss 7.10, 2, Gothic 3. There were 24 starters. In the straight Maple took charge, and won brilliantly by two arid a-half lengths, With Gothic running on half a length back. Time 2.335.

Bunvood Handicijo.—Allecreet 7.8, 1; Cimbrian 8.10, 2; El Rey 7.3, 3. Won by one and a-half lengths; threequarters of a length between second and third. Salonia was fourth. Windsor Handicap.—King of Revelry 7.8, 1; Karuma 8.7, 2; Byron 7.9. 3. Won by one and three-quarter lengths ; three-quarters of a length. Time 1.145.

For Victorian Derby.—Faramanch, Opera Queen, Elizabeth March Hynanna is returning to New Zealand, and is expected to leave tomorrow. He lias been scratched for all engagements. Maple ’ worked at Morelialloc to-day and 'it moved freely, looking well. Gothic is showing sonic effects of Saturday’s race. Valainita and King Val . are located at Flemington. Mbllisou after a. few days holiday is working at Caulfield. A JOCKEY’S SUCCESS. SYDNEY, October 22. G. Young, formerly associated with Gloaming, lately intended to retire from the saddle and become a trainer-, but a difficulty of securing premises was serious and he lias decided to resume his riding. Yesterday he celebrated the renewal of bis license bv riding two winners rt Canterbury Park meeting, Gritall in the Highweight first division, and Canberra Flofin in the second division.
