MOTORING AT 143 DEG.
BULAWAYO (Rhodesia) Aug. 20. A story of motoring 800 miles through a. waterless Congo desert in a temperature of 143 deg. when the metal oarts of the car were untouchable, is told by three lieutenants of the. Belgian Air Force, wlio have arrived at Bulawayo They have been surveying air routes in the Belgian Congo. It is the first time that the desert has been crossed in a four-wheeled -vehicle. Owing to the heat the tyres had to he deflated from a 30 to a 31b. pressure. The officers also negotiated the waterlogged country round Lake Chad. Camels were used to pull the ears at Triiiga and a series of forest fires enveloped them at another point, destroying one of the cars.
