SERIOUS CHARGE

PALMERSTON N., October 18
At the Police Court this morn nig, Paul Ludwig Ernest Franck, aged 48, pleaded guilty to two counts of indecent assault on males and was committed to the Supreme Court, Wellington, for sentence.

On arriving at his home at Melrose Road, an isolated part of Mount Rosfcill district, Sydney Franklin, aged 23, a market gardener, discovered a strange iftaii'in the' house and grappled with the intruder; There was a teifific struggle for fifteen minutes inside and outside the 1 house. The intruder struck Franklin oir the head three times with an iron jemmy. Franklin’s wife rushed to lier father-in-law’s house nearby and got the assistance of Franklin senior and three youths, witli whose help the intruder was tied up to a post and kept 'there until the Onehunga police'arrived, when he was arrested on a chatge of breaking and entering, June prisoner gave his ! name as Alfred James. It is hot believed to be his true name;

infuriated COW
ATTACK, ON THREE PEOPLE
AUCKLAND, October 17
George McConnell, a farmer of Axa Aka, was attacked by a cow yesterday afternoon. McConnell went to a paddock adjoining his homestead to bring "in-the cow, which had just calved. It charged him, and knocked him down, rendering him unconscious. Mrs McConnell, armed with a stick; went fe her husband’s assistance, but the infuriated beast knocked her down and stood over lifer. Screams brought S. McConnell, a brother, to the scene, and the cow then attacked him. Meanwhile Mrs McConnell ran to safety. J.t was some time oefore the cow was coaxed away, and eventually George McConnell was dragged to safety. A doctor was summoned and he found that McConnell was not seriously injured. He inserted three stitches in a wound in his head. Mrs McConnell is suffering from shock and- severe br,ui§es. Fortunately the cow had been dehorned.
