A LURE TO SUICIDE
AN AUCKLAND BRIDGE
AUCKLAND, Oct. 18
A suggestion that strands of wire should be placed along the parapet of Grafton bridge as a protection against suicides was made by Mr F. K. Hunt, S..m-., Coroner, at the inquest into the death o Arthur George Taylor, who jumped from the bridge on tuesday aifternoon.
In returning a verdict of suicide, the Coroner said he had four or five inquests regarding people who had thrown themselves from this bridge. It seemed to have some psychological effect—to be a lure to some people. In the present case, deceased’s wife was unable to advance any reason for his action. His finances were sound, and he had just been down to the marketpaying for fruit. There seemed no explanation at all lor his behaviour. The Coroner said he would suggest to the authorities that three or tfoiu strands of pig-wire should he stiung along the parapet, sloping upWaids and outwards. He did not think this would affect the symmetry and beauty of the structure.
