LONDON, October 18. The “ Times* s ” Riga correspondent says an acute food crisis is causing consternation and is threatening preparations for ■ the celebration of the eleventh anniversary of the Bolshevik revolution in November, in connection with which the food department is permitting masses to purchase unrestricted quantities of bread. ' The Trades .Unionist journal “Trub” states the bread reserves are sufficient, but tea, rice and macaroni are not so sound.
The .Soviet urgently lias ordered food officials to work at fullest pressure on week-days, Sundays and holidays, to maintain supplies in industrial centres.
