' Spirituality and Finance. The observations which Archbishop AveriH in his charge to the Auckland Diocesan Synod, made respecting the payment of clergy were both instructive and forcible. They had speoial reference of course, to the conditions that obtain in the Anglican Church, but a somewhat wide application may bo given to them. AVith the exception of those who hold the more responsible arid coveted positions, the .ministers of religion of all denominations have to lie content with stipends, which, judged bv the ordinary standards, are distinctly modest. —Otago Daily Times.
