Thu raiding, proclivities of the Communists and Socialists on the industrial situation in both Australia and New Zealand has been revealed in Tuesday’s, cable news. The success so far achieved in Australia is too apparent, and it Avonld appear there are designs also to throw sand into the wheels of the industrial machinery in this Dominion. The public should take careful stock ; €f the general situation as it is hoped the Government is doing. The Government has been making a praiseworthy effort to secure industrial peace, but the conference of employers and employed which sat some time ago, did not do more than reach an agreement on academic aspects of the issue. It is clear from the happenings in Australia that a revolutionary hand is operating. This practice of bombing willing workers is part of a scheme to terrorise free workmen, and it is unfortunate the offenders cannot be brought to hook, so that the whole plotting may be laid bare, and the truth of the situation revealed to those who are at present being misled and hoodwinked by these emissaries of bolshevistic tendency, if not worse. The developments as tney appear to be unravelling, suggest that in the interests of constitutionalism it is a time for sane rule and government. Men of tried loyalty to the Crown and constitution should be the ready elect to the .national positions. Whenever there is doubt or uncertainty as to the standing of candidates seeking parliamentary power, the public should take no risk in the matter. The liberty of the public at large is too valuable to be risked for political fads which are not disclosed publicly. Here in Westland as was referred to by Mr Seddon the other evening, the electors have to chose carefully and to 1 avoid serious possibilities In the future should vote with the fate of their country in mind. The issue of the election in the first place is not whether Reform or United shall govern, but that Labour shall not rule nor be encouraged to rule by any accession of strength, which will give the socialistic party greater prestige as an official opposition. That issue should be weighed gravely in the minds of all who place their country before party.
