WESTLAND HOSPITAL BOARD

MONDAY, OCTOBER loth. The Board held the monthly meeting at 8.30 p.m. Present: Messrs J. J. Breeze (Chairman), W. Jeffries, G. Davidson, M. Keenan, E. A. Wells, T. W. Duff, G. Heinz, and R. Meliarry. An apology Avas made for the absence of Mr Spiers. The minutes were confirmed and outAvard correspondence approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From T. E. Y. Seddon, M.P., forAvarding copy of amending act before Parliament.—Received.

From Hospitals Departments, Wellington, in reference to Harihari Medical Association, stating that a subsidy cannot he granted on funds provided by the Harihari Association.—Received. ■ The Chairman stated that the Board held £2OO of the funds of the Harihari Association and had invited applications for a medical officer on the distinct understanding that a subsidy Avas granted. Mr Jeffries suggested that the Secretary Avrite to the Health Department asking for further information on the subject and that meantime the Boitrd hold over further action in regard to the appointment of a medical officer. He moved to this effect. Seconded by Mr Wells and carried.

From Dr Valintine in regard to the agreement. Avith the Timber Workers’ Union.—Received. From Grey Hospital Board, forwarding draft of agreement between Boards and Timber Workers’ Union for signature. —Received. It Avas resolved that Messrs Davidson and Jeffries sign the agreement on behalf of the Board. From Grey Hospital Board supplying particulars of salaries and receipts of ReAva Maternity Home. —Received. From Timber Workers’ Union, supplying list of 473 names employed in sawmills south of Teremakau river.— Received. .

From, Ross and Kumara Borough Councils forwarding levy.—Received Avith thanks. From Mrs McKay, Harihari', in reference to provision of a telephone Connection for medical officer.—Received. One application Avas received for the position of medical officer at Harihari, from Dr Bell and consideration held over, pending a satisfactory settlement, of the question of subsidy for the Medicpl association. From Pearl Michel, resigning position, as probationer at Westland Hospital.—Received and accented. From A. ToAvers, resigning position as kitchenmaid at Westland Hospital. —Received and accepted. From A. A. Jones, applying for annual leave.—Received and granted. From Jos. Freitas and M. M. Freitas, applying ’ for annual lea ve,- —Received and request granted. / REPORTS. ; From Surgeon-Superintendent reporting on Ist September there were 46 patients in: the hospital. Admitted during the month of September, 18 inales,. 12 females—3o; total treated L 3 males, 33 females—76. Discharged cured 24 males, 19 females—43; total discharged 43. . In hospital on 30th September, 19 males, 14 females—.‘l3. In hospital for over two months, 10 males, 6 females—l6.—Received. Accounts amounting to £471; 18s. A\ere passed for payment. I The Treasurer reported receipts £1176 9s lid, payments £IOO2 15s lid, credit balance £199 Is 9d,—Received. • me Hospital Ball Committee forwarded a balance sheet of the recent ball, showing receipts £l6l 3s 6d, payments £23 7s 6d, leaving a profit of £137 16s.—Received Avith thanks. Mr Jeffries moved that the Chairman make a public expression of thanks to all concerned and that special thanks be passed to the Overland Dairy Coy., of Groymouth, for cream and ice for the first night, and Mr Mclntosh for cream for the second night. Seconded by Mr Wells and carried.

Mr Davidson moved a special vote of thanks to the joint secretaries, Miss Holliday and Mrs Paterson. Seconded by the Chairman and carried. The House Committee reported on a number of matters in connection with the hospital that required attention.—Received and approved. Mr Davidson gave notice to move that the question of holiday leave for employees at the hospital, as in force, be rescinded. The next meeting of the Board was fixed for November 19th. The Board rose at 9.20 p.m.
