CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 16. Mr H H. Holland has withdrawn as Reform candidate for Avon and Mr T B Hughes, who contested Christchurch South in 1914, has accepted Reform nomination. , . Mr E. H. Andrews will stand for Christchurch North as the > United Party candidate. MR HOCKLEY’S CAMPAIGN. ROTORUA,. Oct. 16. Last night Mr F. F. Hockley opened his electoral campaign, when he delivered an address to a large gathering of electors at King’s Theatre. He made spirited defence of Reform administration, specially the land and finance policy. He approved of tie Singapore Base contribution as an integral part of Empire defence, and of Hew Zealand trade. He made no platform pledges, hut stood for Reform on a no-confidence motion. His support would be given to measures that were, in his opinion., in the interest of all people of the British Empire and Dominions. . At the close, a vote of thanks for his past nine years’ services, and confidence in the candidate for the future was passed unanimously.
