CANADIAN MEDALS (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) LONDON, Octobei; 12. Commemorating on tlie sixtieth anniversary of the Canadian Confederation, M.r MacKenzie King, the Premier, presented His Majesty with a gold medal three inches in diameter, struck at Ottawa. The Prince of Wales, Mr Baldwin, and Lord Wellington will be similarly' honoured with silver replicas. Viscountess Welington and the Canadian Privy Councillors will receive bronze module. The Cadadian officials will receive medas cast in all the metals mined in Cadada. The observe side bears the King’s head, designed by Mr Bertram MacKcnnal, the Australian artist, and tlie reverse side bears a symbolical figure designed by Mr Jeffreys of ’Toronto. It typifies “Youth,” “Energy” and “Confidence” surrounded by heraldic devices and the names of the explorers, including Captain Cook.
AN ARREST. (Received this day at 8 a.m.) LONDON, October 16. “ Le Petit Parisien’s ” Nice correspondent states in response to the Spanish Embassy’s request, the police arrested, provisionally' with a view to extradition, Colonel Losroyes and two officer sons, suspected of participation in a plot anti-Directory. The Colonel recently returned from Washington, where he married the Irish Free Stale Minister Smiddy’s daughter. The property -of the three'has been con risen ted. An explosion in a mixing shed of the blasting powder factory at Bramble Island, near Hawich, killed three men and two girls. Windows were smashed five miles away. The factory' is situated in a lonely spot in the marshes.

EXPLOSION ON MOTOR SHIP. LONDON, October 15. Berlin reports three killed and tv only injured by an explosion on the motor ship Kingsliolm during trials off Heligoland. A cylinder covering, blew off and tore a metal plate three indies wide from the deck and burled it twenty feet seaward. Tugs towed the ship to Cuxlmven. The Kingsliolm is one of the sik new motor ships being constructed for Swedish-Ainerican lines, North Atlantic passenger service. Two were entrusted to German yards, but the owners stipulated that a Danish firm must supply the engines.
GREEK RIOTING. ATHENS, October 15. Rioting occurred at Acropolis and the surrounding villages, the inhabitants making a demonstration with arms as ~ protest against agricultural produce tax. Troops were sent to arrest the ringleaders and maintain order. NOT A GRAND DUCHESS. LONDON. October 15. Grand Duke Alexander lias issued a statement in which lie emphasised that it has been approved bv the Dowager Empress that Madame Maehaiowskaya, who is now in America was not the Grand Duchess Anastasia and does not resemble her in voice, looks or personality.
