FRENCH SUBMARINE LOSS
COMMANDER’S PREMONITION. (. United. Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright). (Received this day', at 9.25. a.m.) PARIS, Oct. 15. The Commandant of the submarine Ondine had a premonition of the disaster. Three hours (before the submarine left Cherbourg on, its last voyage, he wrote to liis parents:—“l embrace you for the last time. Something tells me I\ shall not return.’ In addition to blaming- the captain of the Ekaterino the newspapers point out tli'at the Ondine was , a model which was shown to be defective and should not have been sent out on a long cruise without a surface boat as an escort. < Naval circles are surprised that none of the crew on deck were able to struggle to the surface. French torpedo boats are still searching for traces of the lost' submarine. There were harrowing scenes at Cherbourg and Rouen when the loss of all hands was reported, relatives and wives thronging to the naval offices for ( .news.
