HOKITIKA LAWN TENNIS CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Club was held in the County Chambers on Friday evening at 7 o’clock. Present— The President (Dr J. B. Baird) in the chair and 17 members. The minutes of the last annual meeting were read and confirmed. ANNUAL REPORT.

The season was opened on sth November with the usual combined handicap tournament, visitors being present from Kokatabi and All Saints’ Clubs, and taking part in the games. The Annual West Coast Championship and Handicap Tournament was played at Hokitika on 22nd, 23rd, 24th and 25th January. Wet weather prevented play on the mornings of 22nd and 24th, but owing to the operation of the Daylight Saving Bilk play was able to he continued till 7.30 p.m., and all events were completed on the afternoon of 25th January. The tournament was conducted by a joint committee of the All Saints’ and Hokitika Clubs and received good support from players in Greymouth and various country clubs. The following members are to be congratulated on their performances during the tournament: —Ladies singles championship, Miss M. E. Moore; men’s singles, Mr E. Partridge, runner-up, Mr L. Gooch; men’s doubles, Messrs Partridge and Gooch : combined doubles, E. Partridge and Miss Moore; ladies combined doubles, Misses P. and N. Thompson were run-ners-up: ladies handicap singles “A” grade. Mrs Paterson; ladies doubles, Mrs Morris and Miss Andrews; men’s doubles, J. Keller and J. Perham: combined doubles, P. Dougherty and

partner. During the season trophies were offered bv Dr Baird. Mr A. W. Yairall and Mr E. Partridge, for men’s handicap singles, ladies handicap singles, and iunior girls’ handicap singles. Matches in these events were nrran e-ecl, and were von by Mr E, Partridge, Miss M. Irwin, and Miss Helen Stavelev.

The usual Inter-Club matches were played, results being as follows: “A” team and “B” team won aornin«t Greymouth. “B” team won against All Saints and against Ivokatahi. and also the return match against Kokatahi. “A” team lost and “B” team won against Giv.vmouth in the return match. No return match was played bv All Saints’ Club.

The report and balance sheet were received and adopted. . ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The election of officers for the season resulted:— President—Dr J. B. Baird. Vice-President—Mr E. Partridge. Club Captain—Mr P. Dougherty. Secretary—Mr L. Michel. Assistant-Secretary—Miss Urquhart. Committee—Misses Moore, and Davidson, Mrs Guthrey, Messrs Cooke and Guthrey. ' Tko President paid a tribute to the solendid work of Mr J. W. Morris as secretary and moved that a hearty vote of thanks be recorded in the minutes. Agreed to unanimously. It was resolved that preference for membership he given to applicants, wlm are net me/nhers of another club. The following new members were elected :—Rev. Father McKay, Messrs Lodge, Fuoliy, and A. Stevenson, the Committee to deal with other vacancies. It was resolved to recommend to the Committee to admit senior members up to the number of 35; to effect improvements to the mens room ; to talfo stews to ensure the pavilion being locked up after uRv. Mr Cooke was elected Auditor. The omening day was fixed for Saturday, November 3rd., the usual mixed doubles tournament to bp held and an invitation to he extended to other Clubs. Votes of thanks were passed to h" Cagney (Auditor), Conn tv Council for use. of rooms, and the press. The meeting then terminated.
