In respect to the last mentioned seven votes covering secondary highways, the Westland County Council contributes £1 for every £1 10s piovided by the Alain Highways Bond. For the Taramakau-Koss, RossWaiho, and Arthur’s Pass-Kumara roads (main highways) the WeAkim 1 County Council contributes £lO per mile towards maintenance, or a total for the year of £1530. The local hodcontrilmtion is supplementary to the departmental expenditure.
Of the works above enumerated some are now being finalised, ethers are in hand or being put in hand, and for the remainder proposals are being prepared. Practically all the piincipa. stream crossings to the Waiho are now listed, and for the works nothin hand plans are being prepared. and the works will he completed, it is lullv expected, during next year.
