SALE OF ART WORKS.
FOR SOVIET NEEDS. LONDON, October 10. The “Times’s” Berlin correspondent j reports that a sale in Russia of works, - of art on behalf of the Soviet Trade Delegation begins on the 6th November. There have been 447 valuable % - objects taken from the Leningrad museums and castles. The catalogue explains that Russia’s publicvcollections have been so enriched by the confiscation of private collections that it becomes possible to dispose of the without appreciably the museums and galleries. The surplus is so numerous that it is impos- :■}- sible to find accommodation, even after r 'utilising the Tsar’s Winter Palace, v 'l no objects include priceless tapestries, gold ware, furniture, sculptures, and paintings.
