BUSH FIRES. NEAR DARLING DOWNS. (Australian Press Association.) BRISBANE, October 10. Bush fires are sweeping the Main Toowomba range. One thousand acres were burned out last night. The flames are spreading menacingly. The Spring Bluff Railway Station and Settlement is the centre of a fierce conflagration. The country is ablaze lor miles alongside the line. SYDNEY WOOL SALES. SYDNEY, October 10. At the wool sales the market is very firm for all top lines of fleeces and good skirtings. The lower grades are still selling irregularly. The bidding has been well distributed. Russian buying has been a noticeable feature, and the Japanese, French anti Belgians have been prominent. The sales totalled 11,301 balesi Greasy merino fleece sold to 25(jd per pound.
IN MID-TASMaN. A SCHOONERS EXPERIENCE'. SYDNEY, October 10. The schooner “Margaret AY” arrived to-day from Gisborne. Captain Watchtin reports a stormy passage lasting sixteen days. When four hundred miles off the Australian coast the vessel encountered a dust storm, similar to those met. in the Red Sea. The visibility was less than a mile in .the day time, while the' diist lasted.
