PRAGUE DISASTER
BUILDING COLLAPSES. 12 DEAD AND 80 MISSING. . (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph— Copy r i glit). PRAGUE, Oct. 9. A seven-storied iron and concrete building which was being constructed in one of tin' frequented thoroughfares, collapsed during the afternoon. Out of 87 workers engaged thereon, sixty are still missing. There are also 20 passers-by missing. They are believed to lie beneath tlfe ruins. Thus far 12 dead, and 16 seriously injured have been recovered from the debris. Two thousand soldiers, in addition to the whole Fire Brigade, arc feverishly working to reach those imprisoned in the building. The cries of the injured can he hoard continuously. The missing include the architect of the building, which was on the point of completion. The head and limbs of a woman who was wheeling a perambulator were found when the building collapsed, but there are noi signs of the baby. The President closed the Senate. ; which was sitting, wh,en the news was made known. The Mayor has ordered that all new buildings in Prague shall be inspected within twenty-four hours.. THE AR CHTTEOT SUICIDES. PRAGUE, Oct. 10. Re-euers have been working on the collapsed building all night with the aid of searchlights. It is feared the death roll will he heavy. A well-dressed girl was crushed flat on the pavement beneath a massive concrete pillar. Every hone in her body was broken. The failure of the structure is attributed to inferior material. The architect committed suicide.
