FURTHER, REPORT REGARDING OPOSSUMS. A Kanieri trapper of repute supplies the following report to the Society on the subject of opossums and bird-life: — “I wish to take advantage of the invitation extended to op4sSum trappers (who were not present at your recent special meeting) to state their views from experience in connection with the effect trapping has on native bird-life. “I have trapped the last three seasons as one of a party of three, and we early came to the conclusion that the opossum trap is the best friend the native bird ha®, inasmuch _as "0 have caught at least twice as many weasels fund rats a.s we have biids. “A Kiwi which was liberated little the worse for its experience, was the only one of the larger birds caught, Blackbirds comprising ninety per cent of the victims. “I hope .the Society will be successful in obtaining permission to liberate more opossums in the many suitable localities within . its district.”
