CORRESPONDENCE.

COLOURED if AIN. (To the Editor.) Sir, —In your issue of yesterday you refer to dust-laden rain having fallen at Kokatahi during last week and I would like you to record that Ruatapu had a. similar experience. The rain that fell on Sunday morning. (7th Oct.) contained a brick red sediment of the same colour as is found in the soil in Northern Victoria and there is little doubt that this dtis was in suspension in the air when the heavy rain fell on Sunday morning. As I had a basin laid out clear of all buildings I was able to get a good sample of this dust-laden rain and 1 send you herewith a small bottle which may be of interest. If tlie contents are poured into a white dish and allowed to settle 'the sediment is easily apparent. I am, etc., GEO. TRIPPNEIt. ltuatapu, October 9th., 1928.
