SUPPLEMENTARY ESTIMATES
WELLINGTON, October 8. Items of some' general interest appearing on tlie Supplementary Estimates embrace salary increases for several heads of State Departments. These included an increase for the Engineer in Chief of the Public AN orks Department of £SOO, making his total salary £2OOO. Additional subsidies to Hospital Boards are provided at £15,000. An additonal vote towards teachers’ salaries is £9OOO. There is a compassionate allowance to Lady Sim. relict of the late Air Justice Si in c'f £3OOO. There is a vote of £2OOO for the aviators of the Tasman flight ; and £SOO for the. Board of Maori Arts and Crafts. Tlie sum of £SOO is voted towards the expenses of the N.Z. Olympic team, also £250 to the AYnr Funds Council for the South African veterans. A sum of £4OOO appears as an additional vote for improvements to tlie late ALr Massey’s grave plot at Point Halswell. There is £IOOO towards the expenses of the Parliamentary Delegation to Canada. Among the AYest Coast items are:— Great South Road, extension £ISOO (on account), Tvmiinrn Junction to Ivapitea Road £6OO (at rate of £2 for £1).
