DENSE DUST CLOUDS. PASS TO SEA OVER SYDNEY. Vustralian Press Assn.—United Service SYDNEY, October 7. Heavy winds recently lifted large quantities of dust from the parched areas in the West. These formed in an awesome cloudbank, like a fog, overshadowing the city in the fore-noon like a threatening rainstorm, but it then passed eastward in the direction of New Zealand. HOT DUST STORM. (Received this day at 8 a.nv.) SYDNEY, Oct, 8. To-day, a sweltering heat wave, accentuated by a hot blustering dust laden wind from the interior plains, rendered outings extremely unpleasant and’ carried a good deal .of minor damage in suburban areas. ANOTHER FIRE. DESTROYS 30 BUILDINGS. SYDNEY, October 8. Another fire at Way Way, a seaside resort north of Sydney, destroyed over thirty cottages. The damage is £15,000. The fierce gale and the absence of firefighting appliances rendered the spectators helpless.
MORE COTTAGES. BURNT. SYDNEY, Oct. 8. Additional week-end cottages destroyed at Way Way bring the total to 45. Reports arriving state many people were injured, but there were no deaths. MARITIME CONFERENCE. SYDNEY, Oct. 8. Having drawn a policy for conducting a waterfront strike, the Conference of Maritime Transport Unions has concluded. It was de.eided that unionists are- to refuse licenses under the Transport Act, and the dispute must be confined to the present limits. It has been decided to take no action to end the strike. Plans have been formulated whereby other Unions should provide financial assistance to the strikers and dependents.
MOTOR FATALITY ■SYDNEY, Oct. 8. Keith Poulton, aged 29, a prominent tennis player who visited New Zealand in 1923 was killed in a motor accident at Mosman Suburb. SHOOTING. SYDNEY, Oct. 6. Yesterday’s shooting at. Liverpool Range was marred by a heavy northwesterly wind. A mirage also caused a blurring of sights. The events were staged for the benefit tyros. The championship begins on Monday. All states are represented and also New Zealand. AGAINST BUTTER MARKETING board. SYDNEY, Oct. 8. Attempts to create a Butter Marketing Board here have failed, supporters having been unsuccessful in obtaining the requisite two thirds of the total votes polled. A feature of the ballot against the poll was the strong negative vote in dairying districts of the North Coast.
