AUCKLAND ‘RACES. (Australian Press Association). (United Service), 4 AUCKLAND, Oct. 6. Owing to a misunderstanding at the start of the Mitchelson Cup, when half the field failed to start,, a large section of the crowd at the opening day, of the Auckland Racing Club’s spring meeting at Ellerslie' to-day, became very hostile. There was a terrific uproar ; at the end of the race, the, .crowd storming ' the course and hooting for over half an hour. The police and club officials were entirely unable to cope, with the crowd, .’which surged over the course, and when the next race commenced the straight was filled with several hundred booing people. Horses had to leave the bird cage through a side gate’ as the crowd refused to allow them to use the ordinary gate, Owing, to sever© obstruction of the horses at the finish, it was decided to postpone the remaining races until Monday, when the gate's will be thrown open to the public free. A.J.C. MEETING SYDNEY, Oct, 7. The A.J.C. Spring Meeting concluded at Rarid wick on Saturday in warm weather. The track was good. The attendance was 45.000. The racing lacked the: interest of the previous three days of the meeting, due to the absence of many of the high-class performers. Limerick was withdrawn from the Randwick Plate. This disappointed large numbers of racegoers, who were anxious tp see a contest between the New Zealander and Winalot. Bacchus created a surprise by narrowly defeat in 2 Winalot in the Randwick Plate, while Raniulus, who . went out favourite for the Clibhorn Stakes, completely outclassed the. opposition.
