The visit of the Empire Forestry delegation to New Zealand next week is evidently going to be a very crowded one. It is regrettable that more time is not set apart for the Westland visit, for here are situated the forests of New Zealand which will last for decades. The tour locally is confined to a late arrival here next Thursday afternoon, a dash south the next forenoon as far as Harihari, and then speeding north in the afternoon again to. Greymouth, and on to Nelson and the North Island, where as usual, the bulk of the time is to be spent. Of the sixteen days in the Dominion, only five very crowded days are allotted to the South Island, the remaining eleven being devoted to the North Island. In*the short time available so much travelling is to be done that there will be a very restricted opportunity for observation on which to form opinions which might contain useful advice to New Zealand respecting its forestry methods. From such a visit it should he possible to derive some useful advice and instruction, but we rather fear the rapidity with which the tour is to be made will prevent any sound opinions being arrived at, or the possibility of any views of value being expressed. The forests of Westland ‘in relation to the future supply of the Dominion appears to be of the utmost importance, and it is to. be regretted that the occasion of such a visit cannot be turned to more advantage than it appears possible |it will. i
