FIRE AT WESTPORT
TWO SHOPS GUTTED. AYESTPORT, September 30. About mid-night on Saturday, a building comprising two shops and dwellings owned by Air J. Carmine and occupied by Air J. AY. King (fruiterer and confectioner) and All and Airs Shrives (the latter using the front portion for dressmaking and millinery) was gutted by fire. The flames extended to . the AVestport “ NeWs'” office, which also sustained damage by fire and water. Badlie and Co’s store, on the other side, separated by some 12 feet from the burning building, was saved, intact.' The insurances are: —J. A\ 7 . King, stock and fittings, £350; Shrives, stock and furniture. £400; AYestpor News, £2OOO on building, machinery and stock. . , The Fire Brigade had just hmsliec with Carmine’s fire, however, when the bell went again for a fire ma Government cottage situated m tie station yards, just opposite the Coa Company’s office. This was quickly checked.
