VORONOFF TREAT MENT
EXPERIMENTS WITH OTAGO SHEEP. . DUNEDIN, Sept. 28. Last year Dr H P. Pickenll, then Dean of the Medical Faculty at Otago University, co-operating with the, Otago Farmers’ Union, carried out experiments in rejuvenation by .the Yoronoff method on rams belonging to Mr Jasper Clark, of Lovell’s Flat, and Mr T. Mee, of Lauder. Considerable publicity had been given to the results obtained by Dr Voronoff in regard to the transferring of glands from .young rams to those which had become old and decrepit, and it was claimed, that such old rams when operated upon obtained renewed vitality and consequently retained their value for stud purposes over a longer period .than could be normally expectedEnquiries as to the progress being made by the rams so operated upon in Otago elicit the information that those treated on the property of Mr Clark died a short time after the operation. This was due to the fact that in their aged condition they were unable to cope with the after-effects of administration of a general anaesthetic. As to the two rams operated upon at Mr Meeks farm, these having been given a local anasethetic, it is reported that very slight improvement has been noticed in the older ram, who isknow riiore active than prior to the operation. The younger ram operated upon appears to be progressing satisfactorily, and will be shorn in a few days. Data is being collected in regard to tho effect of the operation in increasing the clip of wool from each sheep, j . It is stated that Qr. Piekerill is interesting breeders in New South Wales in regard to the Voronoff treatment for rejuvenating worn-out stud rams.
