BRITISH WAR DEBT. GIFT FROM AMERICAN. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, September 25. The Chancellor of the Exchequer lias received from an anonymous American £3OOO worth of United States Steel Corporation 5 per cent, bonds, as a contribution towards the payment of interest on the British vi‘ar debt to America. This is the second anonymous gift of its kind from an American, a £2O donation having been received on Saturday.

A fund towards the redemption of the debt was inaugurated seven months ago with a donation from an anonymous Englishman of £500,000. Since then there have been several contributions, including one of £500,000 ifrom Lord and Lady Inchcape, the whole of the money left by their daughter, the Hon. Elsie Mackay, who perished in an attempt to fly the Atlantic with Captain Hinchclift'e.
