A PAINFUL EXPERIENCE. I _i_ AUCKLAND, Sept. 25. An alarming and painful experience hefel R, McLeod, a young Morrinsville farmer, on Saturday last. While he was in a .store at Motumaho lie. felt a sharp sting behind his right ear, and quickly brushed off a spider which fell on the store counter. McLeod was mounting a waggon outside the store a few moments later when he was attacked with faintness and staggered back .to a seat in the store. His face became hot and swollen, and a numbing sensation travelling down his . night arm and he was unaible to P> collapsed within two minutes of leaving the store. A doctor was immediately summoned from iMor rinsviUe. and succeeded in reviving the unconscious man . after half an hour’s treatment. He ordered his removal to the Morrinsville Hospital, where McLeod recovered sufficiently to return to his home to-day. It was at first supposed that he had been bitten by a Inti no spider, but it was later established that the bite had been inflicted by the ordinary variety of house spider frequently found on windows. Medical men state that it Is well known that some persons are susceptible to the bite of the ordinary species of spider, but that this is regarded as a rare occurrence.
