THE COUNCIL
WELLINGTON. Sept. 27. The Legisative Council met at 2.30 p.m. An agreement was reported between the Council and the House in respect to the amendments made in the Statutory Laud Charges Requisition Bill. The Cinematograph Films Bill was read a second time. In moving the committal of the Auctioneers’ Bill,. Sir 11. Rhodes asked the Council to delete the' clause thrown out by the House, but inserted..by tbe Agricultural and Pastoral Committee' of the Council providing for lots to be sold to tbe highest bidder at auction sales of fish, shell fish, fruit and vegetables. Hon Witty objected, declaring it was not in the consumers’ interests that it be deleted. He gave notice of an amendment to delete tbe proposal that every lot be sold to the highest bidder, but to retain a provision that it should not be lawful for an auctioneer to refuse to accept a bid. In committee 'em tho Bill, Hon Witty’s amendment was carried, and the clause as amended was adopted. The Bill was then passed. The Council adjourned at 4.55.
THE HOUSE. The House of Representatives adjourned at 1.35 p.m. after sitting for' 23 hours, 16! of which were occupied with tin l Mental Defectives 'Bill which ultimately passed with a clause providing for stevlization being deleted. At the evening sitting the Annual Land and 'lncome' Tax Bill was put through all .stages and passed. The Bill made no alteration in taxation levied. The House rose at 11.50 p.m. till 2.31) p.m.
