EVERYBODY® PICTURES. “ PALS FIRST ” FRI DAY. Fdwin Care Ave used perfect screen judgment when he cast Lloyd Hughes and Dolores Del Rio in tlie leading roles of his latest First National production, “ Pals First,” to he shown at the Princess Theatre next Friday, ft Avould he impossible to find tAvo othei players as exactly suited for the parts they play in this excellent motion picture. Lloyd Hughes as “Danny” Rowland, a “ hobo ” forger, gives one of the finest portrayals he has yet offered to the screen. Alec Francis as Dominie Blair, an outcast and a thief, Avho finally discovers the straight and narroAv, is first rate, and George Cooper, third of the pals, -as a pseudo Italian count, carries off all the comedy honours. The story is 'rich in love interest, the sets are beautiful, and the direction is faultless. Dolores Del Rio, latest screen find, enacts her part Avith marvellous restraint. This beautiful girl is destined to great success on the screen-. She gives a sincere portrayal of the heroine. Lloyd Hughey is seen opposite her. EdAvard Earle, as Cousin Harry, essays the role of the villain, and displays a keen desire to secure not only the Castleman plantation, but Dolores as Avell. Earle is a finished actor, and gives a perfect performance. The story of “Pals First” is a human theme, showing-the rightabout face of three crooks, due primarily to the sAveet ,girl Avho lov r es and trusts them when they are thrown into her company and finally on her mercy. “ Pals First ” is one of the finest comemdy dramas seen this season. The supports on Friday are: Topical, further chapters of-“ The Return of the Riddle Rider” serial and a good comedy. On Monday next patrons ivill have tlie pleasure of seeing a picture Avhich has had a big run in . all the larger cities of -New Zealand, “Sorrell and Son,” a picture eyeryqne will like.
