MONEY TAKEN FROM BEDROOM.
WELLINGTON,- September 22. Another case of theft from a bedroom was beard in the Magistrate’s C urt yesterday when William Janies Cl arnley, f labourer, aged 36, pleaded guilty to steaWng £2 15s, the property oif George Williams. He also admitted having used obscene language while in Dunedin in December, 1921. Chief-Detective Ward explained that On the fifteenth of this month accused went to a lodging-house, where he obtained board. .Another lodger >u the house had left some money on Ins dressing-table when he went to the bathroom. While the lodger was m .oe bathroom accused stole the money and then went on a drinking bout. He was arrested later,and it was found that he was wanted.for having used obscene language in Dunedin nearly seen years ago. The stolen money, concluded Mr Ward, had not been recovered. The Magistrate. (Mr E. Page) imposed a fine of £3 on the first charge and ordered accused to repay the £2 15s in default one month’s imprisonment. The money may he paid at the rate of £1 a week. On the second charge accused was convicted ancf discharged.
