ROAD CYCYLING CHAMPIONSHIPS (By Telegraph—-Per Floss Association.) AUCKLAND, Sept. 23. Heavy rain and a strong wind made the conditions decidedly unpleasant for the North Island cycle road race championship from Hamilton to Auckland, 011 Saturday. The event was won by N. Bellringer, of New Plymouth, who covered the 90 miles stretch in 4hrs -flimins. Biding a remarkable race, the winner made his victory more noteworthy by reason of the fact that he was never behind the leading bunches at any stage, although be crossed the starting line in Hamilton 23 minute 1 after the despatch of the first contestant. Second and third places were filled by R. Hard ley (41ms 42mins) and L. {Garden (41ms 42|mins) respectively. These two competitors also represented Taranaki. A well-known Gisborne cyclist, S. Gooch, .secured the blue riband for tire fastest time, covering the journey m 4'hrs 39mins. He finished strongly with the first batch of riders. J Lindop was -only 14 seconds belli nd Gooch in his time. PALMERSTON N. TO WELLINGTON RAGE,
CHRISTCHURCH, September 22. The Palmerston North to Wellington ‘cycling road race as won by A. E. Mutton, of Christchurch (35). C. Rhodes, Christchurch (35) was second ; G. Palmer,. Christchurch (16 min.) third; N. Collins, Palmerston N.. fourth; L. o. Lukey, Christchurch (sct) fifth. The fastest time was recorded by Lukey, 6hrs 25mins 44 2-5 sec, and the second fastest time was M. Gone (Wellington), 6 lirs 33 min 30 see; while the third fastest time was that of G Farmer (Christchurch,) din’s 38min 44 sec.
