DIESEL PLANES. OIL REPLACES GASOLINE. Ausfralian Press Assn.—United Service NEW YORK, Sept. 20. AVliat is believed to be a revolutionary step in the development of aircraft power is announced by a Packard Motor official at Detroit, after a successful test of an aeroplane whose power was supplied by. an; oil burning motor. This is the first of the Diesel type of aircraft ever built. A test flight was made with a Stinson Detroit Monoplane. The motor is of the radial, air-cooled type. Jt develops £two Jiun'dred 'liorse-power on the Diesel principle. The oil fuel eliminates the gasoline ignition system and the spark pings. It also removes the fire danger from gasoline, and it reduces the, consumption 1 and the fuel costs. ■ , , The claim is made that the newmotor will carry a plane twenty-five ■per cent farther with the same weight :in oil fuel compared with gasoline. BRITISH FEDERATION. , OTTAWA, September 20. A message from Hamilton, Ontario, states : All- AI. At. Robinson, - manager of the Canadian Olympic track and field team, announced yesterday on his arrival from Europe that a British Empire Sports Federation would be created, and the inaugural games would be staged here in. 1930. He said it was hoped to hold an annual interEmpire sports meet. He said a definite pledge, to send teams in ,1930 had been secured from the isports officials of every section of the Empire. The,decision to form the Federation followed on ! a conference at London of the officials of the British, New Zealand,- Austr’a- 'j linn and South African amateur sports. '
