AVliat is believed to be a revolutionary step in the development of aircraft power is announced by a Packard Motor official at Detroit, after a successful test of an aeroplane whose power was supplied by. an; oil burning motor. This is the first of the Diesel type of aircraft ever built. A test flight was made with a Stinson Detroit Monoplane. The motor is of the radial, air-cooled type. Jt develops £two Jiun'dred 'liorse-power on the Diesel principle. The oil fuel eliminates the gasoline ignition system and the spark pings. It also removes the fire danger from gasoline, and it reduces the, consumption 1 and the fuel costs. ■ , , The claim is made that the newmotor will carry a plane twenty-five ■per cent farther with the same weight :in oil fuel compared with gasoline. Robinson, - manager of the Canadian Olympic track and field team, announced yesterday on his arrival from Europe that a British Empire Sports Federation would be created, and the inaugural games would be staged here in. 1930.
