PLUNKET SOCIETY

A special moeting of the committee of tho Plunket Society was held in the County Council Chambers on Monday aiteriiooii to receive the report and balance sheet of the recent Reveille. There were present: Mrs W. J. Butler (President), Mrs J. B. Baird (VicePresident), Mosdames Michel, D. Stuart, Nelson Wright, Hayward, S. Bassett, Hugar, Gurnet Perry, and George Perry (Secretary, and Treasurer). The report of the Reveille was presented by Mrs Butler, showing that the fifty-fifty basis on which the entertainment was run, by which the Plunket Society and the producer shared equally the expense and the profits, proved entirely satisfactory.

The balance sheet presented by Mill. Key, showed a not profit to the Society of £94 0s 7d, to which is to be added £ll Bs, donations made directly to the Plunket Society.

As a result then of the Reveille the Society benefits to the extent of £lO5 3s 7d.

It was resolved that this sum be.deposited in the Hokitika Savings Bank as tlie nucleus of a fund for the establishment of a Plunket Rest Room in Hokitika for women and children.

-Meanwhile the Society will make enquiries re site, type of building required, probable cost, etc. The meeting heard with interest the report of Mrs H. L. Michel, who was the delegate appointed to represent tlie Hokitika Sub-branch at the Plunket Society’s conference in Wellington from August 28th to 31st. REPORT OF 1928 REVEILLE. -

I beg to report that the result of the Reveille from all points of view has been most successful. Tlie financial aid which the local branch of the Plunket Society will receive is most gratifying.

Tho balance-sheet herewith submitted discloses a nett balance of £lO5 3s 7d. This amount is composed of £94 Os 7d, being proceeds of the Reveille and £ll 3s of amounts contributed direct to the Society—such cofttributions having been largely induced by Reveille influence although not entering into the accounts which had relation to the Reveille. It will he well to record that the agreement which was entered into with Mr Lints (the producer) has been carried out faithfully on both sides. Tho fact-that the terms had been explicitly stated by Mr Lints in the first instance left no room for any of those misunderstandings that otherwise so- often occur. In this connection many thanks are due to our advisory board fox- their counsel in the matter.

it will be seen that the gross takings of the entertainment were: £242 3s sd; programmes £8 ss; advertisements on programme £25 ss; making a total of £275 13s sd. This total was leduced by sundry expenses to £IBB Is 2d, in which tlie Plunket (local branch) Society participated to the extent of 50 per cent, i.e., £94 0s 7d. r> Thisi sntisfatcory result is in great mesaure due to the fact that so much efficient voluntary help was forthcoming.—not only in respect to the brilliantly trained performers, but also in respect to those who so ably supported Mr Lints “ behind tho scenes.” This latter, be it remembered, called for days of labourious work, in preparing scenery, installing electric fittings and erecting structural equipments. In connection with tho electrical arrangements we had much for which to thank the Kanieri Electric Coy, viz. for the advice and assistance members of their staff so freely gave. Amongst others to whom the thanks of the Society are due are: "The Guardian,” which opened its columns most/ unstintingly to the Reveille and most generously modified its charges, and Airs Mclntosh for the use of seven extra dressing-rooms for the accommodation of the 130 pciformors.

Lastly the. work of tho efficient staff of voluntary ushers and door-keepers, together with 'the house-manager, is most heartily appreciated. JANIE BUTLER (Pres.).,
