An excellent recovery has been made by Bishop Cleary from the severe injuries lie sustained in a, motoring accident on the Hamilton-Camhridge road on July 22. He is now able to leave his room and to walk on crutches. The accident prevented Bishop Cleary from attending the Eucharistic Congress in Sydney, as he had hoped to do. Incidents in the life of a traffic inspector on point duty came to light in th-o Magistrate’s Court, Christchurch, when an insppector gave evidence in a motor collision case. “How often, do motorists toot at the crossings you direct? The death occurred at the Reeftou Hospital en Sunday of Mr William U'rysdale, one of the oldest identities of tho district, at the age of 85 years. Deceased was-a native of Stirlingshire, Scotland, and came to Australia when quite a young .man. After participating in the Bendigo, Ballarat, and other famous gold rushes, he came to New Zealand, and worked for some time at Gabriel’s Gully, later joining the rush to tho West Coast, where he followed gold-mining pursuits with varying success oil the different fields, and eventually going to lleefton, where he settled over fifty years ago. He was employed as a roadman for many years by the Ina-ngaliua County Council on the route between Caplcston and Victoria range, where the once prosperous gold mine known as “Kirwan’s Reward,” was located.
