MOTOR TRADERS CONFER. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.), NELSON, Sept. 18. The Eleventh Annual Conference of the New Zealand Motor Traders’ Assn, opened this morning, when delegates numbering about 130 were welcomed by Mayor Moffatt. The Annual Meetings of the Wholesalers and Retailors’ Associations are being held this afternoon, A number of important matters arc set down for discussion, j A round of entertainments have been organised by the local committee.
ALLEGED FRAUD. CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 18. At the Magistrate’s Court, John Hollars McKenzie, aged 25, was (•barged with obtaining £57 9s from Checker Service Station Co. on Juno loth by fraud, by saying lie bad a timber cutting contract at Darfiold. The Chief Detective said that thirty charges involving £7OO would ho preferred against “McKenzie. A remand was granted till September 25th.
DAIRY COMPANY SHARES CASE, WOODVILLE, Spot. 18.
The written by Mr J. Miller, S.M., of interest to dairy.companies concerning the allotment of shares to a supplier by a company, on tlie basis of butter-fat supplied, was read in tlie Magistrate’s Court this morning. The directors of Woodville Dairy Coy. in accordance with the articles of association allotted W. Brotlierstone, a shareholder, a further <ls shares, to bring his quota to 170, he having supplied 17,0301 bof butter-fat, the basis of allotment being a share of every bundroid. The Company deducted a halfpenny per pound butter-fat in payment but tlie shareholder objected to the allotment without application, and took action to recover the amount deducted. Judgment was given dor the defendnnt company with costs, the trate bolding that a shareholder is bound by articles five and six, for when be became a shareholder he accepted the conditions that each supplier hold two shares for every cow be shall own, 2Golbs of .'butter-fat to represent each cow, and that the directors may allot additional shares without application from the shareholders.
FORTUNE-TELLING CH ARGE. WHANGAREI, Sept. 18. Nathaniel! Julius Copeland, otherwise “ Angus,” and his father, Charles Louis Copeland, were charged at Whangarei Court as follows: “They did undertake to tell fortunes and pretend of tlicir skill to discover in what manner the supposed to lie stolen may be found.” The accused pleaded not guilty and elected to be dealt with summarily. Prosecution arose through a performance at Whangarei on July 21st. Police and other testified Angus gave addresses to missing friends, also initials and surnames in some instances of porous who allegedly stole articles and cashed dishonoured cheques, etc. Magistrate Luxford. in judgment, said the only factor preventing the infliction of a term of imprisonment', was tlie partial admission of accused before an actual demonstration, that they were not altogether what they pi (Jessed to be. Each accused'was convicted and fined £5 cadi on four charges and costs. Notice of appeal was given.
