The School Fair, which takes place to-morrow afternoon at the State School grounds, commencing at d o’clock will give the opportunity to many parents to view the considerable improvements made to the grounds during the year as a result of the financial result oif last year’s successful function. Tho Kumnra Fire Brigade Ball at the Memorial Hall, Kiimara, on Friday evening attracted a large attendance from all round the-district and proved highly successful from every standpoint.
The weather last night,, continued rough and stormy and this morning showed no improvement. The wind had dropped a little but the gale continued from the north, heavy ra.in falling. Just/before noon there was a thunderstorm, the lightning being very vivid.

On Friday night, -Mrs Warren, wife of Mr J. Warren, of the Exchange Hotel, Beefton, was found dead in bed, a couple of homo* after retiring. The deceased had not complained at any time, and apparently was quite well. The late Mrs Warren was 48 years of age, and a native of New South Wales. Before coming to New Zealand she resided in Victoria. She arrived in Recftnn district with Iter husband in 11)07. A husband and family of lour daughters and one sou are left.
During a stock sale at Kaitnia last week. Mr Edward Panther, a wellknown farmer of Victoria Valley, had. a narrow escape from death, states the “New Zealand Herald.” lie was standing on the rails of a cattle pen when a rail collapsed and he fell on to the horns of a cow in the pen. The frightened animal tossed its head violently and a horn was driven between the unfortunate man’s ribs, narrowly missing the heart. Mr Panther was removed to the Kaitnia Hospital, and his condition was reported to be satislactory.
,i lie death occurred yesterday of Mr Thomas CWv. at the' residence of his sister, Mrs Spencer, South Beach. The late Mr Casev, who was a native ol County Limerick, Ireland, was one o', the early pioneers to reach these shores and had attained the age'of 86 years. Leaving Ireland when quite a lad, lie arrived in Victoria in 1861. lie billowed mining there for some years, subsequently coming to the Coast on the outbreak of the gold rush, and working at l-lokitika and surrounding mining districts. He also followed mining in Keefton lor a time, subsequently returning to Australia. About seven years ago he returned to the Coast, and resided with his sister at South Bench, enjoying good health until a few weeks ago.
