FOOT BALI

THE WING FORWARD. MUST HE DISAPPEAR? (By Telegraph—Per Press Association,! CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 17. It is the confirmed opinion of both C. E. Morgan (manager of the touting Wavatahs) and of A. J. Geddes (New Zealand selector and manager of the New Zealand team) that the wing-for-ward must very soon disappear from New Zealand football.

“it is a strange contradiction,” said .Morgan to a reporter, “ but both here and in New South Males, the fast open game is the one which is trying to be developed. This is the style which affords most exercise for the players and the most entertainment for the spectators, yet you in New Zealand still are persisting with the wing-lor-ward, who is the spoiler of all open play. 1 think with the experience which comes hack from South Africa that the wing-forward will soon.be no more.”

y\ v (Jedties said lie thought the wingforward must go as lie was more oi a hindrance than a help, as football was at present being developed. Air Geddes, however, championed the two-threo-two scrum. There were plenty o places the wing-forward might go. He could he put m the back ol the scrum to give more weight and an added balance or lie could be used as an extra three-quarters or lull-back, which was part of his duty already Any of these positions would be mo logical than the one be occupied now.
