SCHOOLMASTER’S DEATH. (By Telegraph—l*?r Press Association.), CHRISTCHURCH, September 17. Obituary.—William Walter, 8.A., aged 72, formerly mastor at tlio Christchurch Boys’ High School and assistant master at Wellington College. MOTOR ACCIDENT. ■ CHRISTCHURCH, September 17. As a result of a motor collision yesterday, Mrs li. McDonald, ol .Non Road, Belfast, and a girl, F. McDonald, aged 10, wore admitted to Christchurch Hospital. Mrs MacDonald was suffering from scalp wounds and shock and the girl from slight concussion. DEATH FROM BURNS. AUCKLAND, Sopt. 17. Mrs Alary Turner, widow, aged 50, died in the hospital yesterday from burns, sustained at Ponsonbv on Saturady, when she was enveloped in flames by the firing of aluminium paint she was using for renovating the stove. It is surmised that live coals had been left in the grate. SUDDEN DEATH. GISBORNE, Sept. 17. Walter Herbert Boys,' aged 51, chief clerk of the Public Works Department, finished a game of bowls on the Poverty Bay Club’s Green on Saturday afternoon He took a seat near the. pavilion and shortly afterwards was found dead. He had been suffering from heart trouble.
BODY FOUND. AUCKLAND, Sept. 17. The body was found in a cave near Manakau Heads on the beach yesterday, of Arthur James Stonhold, GO, who had not been seen since walking from Karekare hoarding house on Sunday week. A letter in his pocket declared his intention of going into the cave. DAMAGES CLAIMED. CHRISTCHURCH, Sopt. 17.
A company manager and a Solicitor were involved in a motor accident on the morning of Sunday, July 22nd. at the intersection of Hereford Street and Oxford. Terrace. Details of tlv smash were given in the Magistrate’s Court, when diaries Phillip Agar claimed £99 damages from William John Stacy, a solicitor. Defendant, counter-claimed for £l2O 15s. The parties alleged the other had driven negligently and at ail excessive speed. Botli parties were non-suited.
SUPREME COURT SENTENCES. I . NEW PLYMOUTH, Sept. 15. At the Supreme Court the following were sentenced:—
, Walter Arthur Stevens, for an indecent act, two years’ probation. Arapera ICaiora Hadfield, manslaughter, two years’ probation.
Morgan Whittaker Priest, theft, falsifying accounts and conspiracy to defraud, four years’ reformative detention.
James Harold Adam, theft, and falsifying accounts, one year reformative detention. HONOURS PRESENTED. WELLINGTON, Sept. 17. At Government House this morning the Governor-General presented Hon. Sir Apirana Ngata with letters patent under His Majesty’s sign manual conferring upon him the dignity of Knight Batchelor. He also presented Major J. L. Saunders and Bandmaster T. Herd the colonial auxiliary forces officer’s decoration.
