FIRE AT GREY

AT D. McLEAN’H LTD. WHOLE STRUCTURE DESTROYED. A destructive fire (broke out this morning before 8 o’clock in the premises of Messrs D. McLean Ltd., wholesale and retail ironmongers and grocers, at the corner erf Mackay and Herbert Streets, off Boundary Street. There was u strong northerly gale blowing when the outbreak was discovered and the flames spread with great rapidity, soon enveloping the whole of the extensive premises with their largo and valuable contents. Tlio Eire Brigade had <ll difficult task, and were unable to save any of McLean's property, the whole of the buildings and contents being destroyed.

Considerable difficulty was exper--0111-011 ill saving the premises pf Costello, tinsmith, in Herbert Street, and tho north wall of the building was considerably damaged, but the building was ultimately saved and so danger was kept away from tlie Park Hotel adjoining.

On the eastern side a narrow lane separated the premises of Greenslade and Co. which were not damaged. The -fire was under control by 10 o’clock and the heavy wind that had been blowing when the outbreak occurred had dropped considerably. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) GRKYMOUTir, Sept, 14. Duncan McLean's Ltd. office, and hardware and grocery store was destroyed ‘by a fire which started at 8 o’clock this morning, and is still burning. Paints and oils fed the flames and tho Fire Brigade hail a difficult task.

The stock was valued at £25,000. Information re insurances was refused. All McLean’s buildings were destroyed. The fire is still smouldering. Neighbouring firms premises wore saved from serious injury.
