Australian Press Assn.—United Service EMPIRE TRADE. VANCOUVER, Sept. 13. Tom Johnston, of Scotland, thought a policy which wanted picked men, capital, and markets, without, counterveiling advantages offered to the people in Britain would need a lot of explaining in' the Old Land. Herbert Williams could not see why Canada was unable to absorb more than 40 per cent of British immigration, as she did before the ‘war. Ho pointed out that Britain, through the Empire Marketing Board, was building propaganda for Empire goods in Britain, and he urged Canada to do the same. VANCOUVER, Sept. 14. At the joint conference of the Board of Trade and the Empire Parliamentarians to-day, Hon Noswortliy urged that we should get down to fundamentals and consider not only immigration within the Empire, but how all interests of the Empire might be consolidated. David Kirkwood, a Scottish Labour member, caused amusement when he declared that what Canada required 'was a Socialist Republic.
