ELECTRIC FISH MYSTERY. PLYMOUTH, July'24. A torpedo that was hauled out of tho bay liero by Dr. E. J. Allen, the director of the Marine Biological Association’s Institute, is now being carefully tended in the Aquarium on the Hoe. It is not the death-dealing high explosive weapon used by warships. It is an enormous Hat fish reseiubling a skate or ray. Its peculiarity is that it gives off electric shocks from its black back. This fish is a rare captive in English waters. Dr. Allen does not remember one having been caught here for more than 20 years. The torpedo has been placed in a glass tank with a number of other fish. But nasty crabs, succulent worms, and choico hits from tho sea bed have failed to make it oat. The torpedo has been mi hunger strike ever since it was caught a week ago. It has a body 2ft din. long by 2ft. Gin. across and a long tail. “IVo may learn a great deal from this torpedo,” said Dr. Allen to me today, “providing we can keep it alive by making it eat. The torpedo may use its electric shocks as a means of stunning its prey or as a means of defence Wo do not know what it eats.”
LA PULMQNA. Sometimes the public: becomes very confused over titles of records and music. A lllenheim dealer recalls that lie was confused on one occasion when a young lady asked for a record, “La Pulmonn.” The dealer decided that the popular “La Pajomu ” was required.
