The first match play round of the Australian Amateur Golf Championship was played at Rose Bay in fine weather. Sixteen amateurs, including A. Duncan, who played in the open championship on Saturday, qualified for to-day’s’ play. ScoresFawcett heat Upper ley, five and three; Sturrock beat Headhim, at forty-first; Du lien li heat Edgar, 3 and 2; Nettlefold beat Rcllington, 10 and 9; Hancock heat Nigel Smith at the thirtyseventh ; Jackson beat Nankivcll, 5 and 3; Sehlnpp beat l.eigli Winser at the thirty-seventh ;' Kennie heat Eastway. 4 and 3. A very short putt which Edgar failed at the eighteenth in the morning round made him on l down to Duncan after a round which fluctuated' one to the other with a number of holes halved. Duncan hole:! a thirty-foot putt at last and taking his stance moved the hall slightly, forfeiting tlie stroke. Duncan was three up at tiie twenty-fourth and won the match three up and two to play.
