The minutes went confirmed and milward correspondence approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From L. H. Morel applying for six months leave of absence.—Received. Mr Wells moved the request, lie gran.ed. Seconded by Mr Jeffries and curried.

From Dr Yalintine, Wellington, enquiring as to the timber workers agreement. —Received. From Dr Valintine, 'Wellington, enquiring as to necessary repairs to maternity home. —Received. It was i csolrcd that the Secretary reply, pointing out the present position of the Board in reference to maternity home and old peoples homo, and the opinion of the Board that it was advisable to hold over any action at present. Gralmni- Secretary, Waiho Gorge Committee, asking the intentions of the Board in reference to thej appointment of a nurse for South Westland and stating that a well train- j ed nurse would meet with the approval olf the community at Waiho and further south. —Received. Mr Jeffries said before any action could be taken the Board must definitely have its position placed. The secretary submitted a schedule of cases of South Westland nursing attended south of Waiho river as folFor year ended 31st March, 1926. 1 Oleum, 3 Karangarua, 2 Weheka, 1 Bruce Bay; total 7. Fees paid £ls 3s <5,1. Census population 1926 below Waiho river 135. For year epded 3]at March, IJ-<• 3 Weheka, 2 Gillespies, 1 Maintain; total 6. Fees paid £6 16s 6d. For year ended 31st March, 1928. 7 Weheka, 1 Mahitahi, 2 Karangarua; total ID. Fees paid £ll 12s fid. The average persons attended to by District Nijrses for the Dominion in 45 districts were 392 for the yea,- ended 31st March, 3.927. in the whole of the South Westland District 17 cases were attended.—Received. .. , It was resolved to take no action at present in regard to a nurse for South Westland. . . From 0. Rowley, Hanlian, forwarding £IOO towards instalment tor medico? officer for HnriJinri.—Received. From T. Nolan,, Mataiuui, forwarding £96 towards medical fund for a doctor. —Received. The Secretary stated that the Boaru had instructed him when £2OO came to hand to make application to the Department for authority for a medical officer at Hnrihari. As the £2OO had not yet come to hand (£4 short) he hail not yet taken any action. After discussion Mr Huff moved that the necessary steps he taken to obtain the approval of the Department for the appointment of a medical officer for South Westland and that when approval is received applications be invited for the position. Seconded by Mr Jeffries and carried. From J. IV. pital, reporting there were 34 patients in hospital oil 31st July; admitted during August, 24 males, 21 females—4s. Total treated 42 males, 37 females —79. Discharged cured, 15 males, 14 females, relieved, 1 female; died, 2 males, 1 female. Total discharged, 17 males, 16 females—33. 11l hospital 31st August, 25 males, 21 females—46. In hospital for two months, 10 males, G females—l6.—Received.
The Chairman of the House Committee (Mr G. Davjdson) reported on a number of matters requiring attention. The Board to congratulate nurses who had passed * their recent examination ; that in "tlio absence of the Matron, Nurse Castlcnnn be asked to carry out lectures to members of the staff. Received. Mr Jeffries asked 'for a statement of the position of the Matron. The Chairman stated the Matron had asked for .two weeks’ leave, which had been granted. She had now been away a month and he understood the Matron had applied to the Medical Officer for a further two weeks’ leave. Mr Jeffries said lie wished to draw attention to the Board’s bye-laws, which should be carried out. Accounts amounting to £355 8s 2<| were passed for payment. The Treasurer reported receipts £1133 10s Gd; payments £947 8s lOd; credit balance £26 10s ld.-Reeeived. The next meeting was fixed for October loth. The Board rose at 9.20 p.m,
