A general meeting of members of the Miniature Rifle Club will be held next Tuesday night at the Soldiers’ Hall to decide as to the future of the Club.

At the Greymoutli S.M. Court yesterday tho theft on July 24 of two shirts and four collars valued at 345, the properly of David Richardson, was denied by diaries John Clayton, who also denied assaulting Richardson at Dobson on September 5. He was not represented by counsel. On the charge of theft, the S.M. convicted and ordered accused to come up for sentence if called upon within twelve months. On the charge of assault lie was fined £l, with costs.

Arising out of a motor accident at Hinau, on the Grey-Reefton road, on August 19, when a motor lorry, driven by William Henry Ncwcnmho, and a car driven by Noel Chapman, came into collision, the drivers appeared before the Reefton Court for breaches of tho motor regulations. Newcomhe was convicted and fined £1 and costs £1 17s and Chapman £2 with costs £1 17s. At the Magistrate’s Court Greymouth, yesterday, John Kermode was charged with converting to his own use, but not so as to bo guilty of theft, a motor cycle valued at £BO, the property of Arthur Cressey, butcher, of Greymoutli. Kermode admitted using tho cycle stating that he and Cressey were “chums,’’ and that he was trying out the cycle after adjusting the clutch. He denied smashing the kickstarter, and also denied that he broke the lock off the door of tho shed in which the cycle had been placed. The police alleged that Kermode had been seen smashing the lock with a stone. Evidence was given by Miss Georgina Jessie Gallop, who said she saw Kermode smash tho lock, and by Mrs Graco Drumm, who made a similar statement. The S.M. fined Kermode ,£2 with Os costs, and witnesses’ expenses 30s. Kermode wak also ordered to pay £4 the amount of the damage done to the-cycle.
In view of the cabled report that a wireless plant is to be set up at- Pitcairn Island, the following stoiy is of interest:—Some months ago., a AVel;iingtou land and estate agent was asked to dispose of a. residential property by a man who went to Pitcairn Island for a. holiday. Owing to want of elasticity as to the terms, tho agent found it necessary to communicate with the owner when a purchaser appeared,- and, <as Pitcairn. Island was not on the wireless list, he had to write concerning tho particulars. He asked for a reply by wireless through the medium of any ship that might call. A month went past, and then, last week, “out of the blue” came the instruction to sell. The message was sent out in the first instance by the steamer City of Batavia. It was picked up by the Coptic and sent on to tho Rotorua, which broadcast it to Auckland. There it ')'as picked up and sent to Wellington. Oilskin and canvas coats, leggings, butterfiys, roadmen’s .capes and souwester hats for men, youths and boys. Men’s coats 37s Gd, youths 30s, boys 22s 6d at MoKay’s.—Advt.
