AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIP. Australian Press Assn.—United Service SYDNEY, Sept. 6. Never varying more than two strokes in each of the four rounds. Fred Popplcwell won the open golf championship of Australia, accomplishing for tlio first time in Australia in open championship play, a hole in one.

llufus Stewart' (South Australia) was the runner-up. His score was only one stroke more than Popplewell’s whoa figures were: 74, 73, 73, 75; total 295.

Stewarts’s card showed 78, 70, 75, 73 —296. Sinclair’s total was 300, and Bolger’s 301. Nettleford with 302, and Spencer with 304, followed.
