A FALSE DECLARATION. ASHBURTON, Sept. 7. : At the Police Court Edward O’Connor pleaded guilty to having made a faiso declaration under tho Old Age, Pensions Act concerning, deposits in, tlie Savings Bank. He was fined £lO and ordered to refund £216 6s 8d obtained in excess.

As far as the Auckland sporting public is concerned there is only one mail on board the liner Aorangi, due at Auckland from Vancouver on Sunday, and that si Tom Hoene.v. Accompanying aro his three brothers, who went from Gisborne to see the fight, and his newly-found wife. It is understood the officials at IYA have made arrangments for Heeney to speak “over the air” immediately he lands at Auckland. In addition, the Northern Boxing Association are hopeful that the New Zealand champion will attend the presentation of medals to the amateur champions on Monday evening. ' £IOOO GIFT. MR SIDEY HELPS CHURCH FUND, ' / DUNEDIN, September 6. At a novelty fair hold to-day to assist the fund for the erection of the new, Cnvorsliam Presbyterian Church, the pastor (the Bev. R. Ferguson Fish) read a letter from Mr T. K. Sidey, M.P., stating that in his opinion tho time hail nrrived for him to fulfil his promise to make a donation of £IOOO, for which sum he had enclosed n cheque. The Mayor (Mr W. B. Taverner) congratulated tho Church on receiving such a handsome contribution, which would go a long way towards building tho new hall.
THEFT FROM LAUNCHES. AUCKLAND, September 6. Carcors of crime covering nine months terminated to-day when Huia Keith Allen, aged twenty-two, a labourer, and William Joseph Whyte aged thirty-six a labourer and a seaman, pleaded guilty to oighteen charges of theft from launches and yachts in the Waitemata Harbour. Each was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment on the summary charges and. was committed for sentence on the indictable ones.
CHARGE OF THEFT. AUCKLAND, September. 6 Augustus Henry Francis Wisnesky, aged 42, a railway employee, charged this morning with, stealing £353 9s 2d from the Mercer Town Board, pleaded not .guilty. He was- committed for trial. Tho ‘charge related to a period between April,' 1924, and August 2, .1923. Hugh Wylie, audit inspector, gave evidence that ho had experienced great difficulty in persuading accused to submit books for audit. Wisnesky was a signalman, which made it very difficult to get info touch with lnm. Deficiencies in the neighbourhood of £3OO had been found. Accused expressed great surprise, saying he knew there was a shortage but thought it amounted to only £4O or £SO. He admitted taking a few pounds when short of money, but claimed that he always repaid from his quarterly salary. Reginald Aylett, chairman of the Mercer Town Board, said that accused had been clerk and treasurer since 1922. Bail was granted in one surety of £250.
