A special Marylebonc subcommittee consisting of Douglas, Arthur Gilligan, Lowesou-Gower, Mann and Harris co-operated with Warner, Carr and Hobbs, cat'll of whom was asked to write down an ideal eleven. They were practically unanimous about nine, nut opinions varied greatly aliout the remainder. The actual selection of the seventeen was determined by vote. Lord Harris was of the opinion that it was impossible to conceive a fairer method of selection. Ho thought that was borne out by the general approval with which the Committee’s choice was met.
LONDON, Sept. 8. Players, second innings 367 ; Gentlemen, second innings 302 for 9 (Carr 63, Robins 87, Fender 60. Gentlemen won by 1 wicket. Thornton's Eleven, first innings 293 (Tate 5 for 71). M.C.C. Australian team second innings 236 for 5 declared (K. Tyldesley 75, Leyland 76). Thorton’s Eleven, second innings 189 for 3 Duleepsiiighji 68, Wyatt not out So). The match was drawn. Kent second innings 394 (L. Bryan 140). Marylebonc second 289 for 6, (A. Gilligan 88, Russell 81). Freeman who took 4 for 117 brought the season’s total to 291 beating Tom Richardson’s 25-year old record of 290. Marylebone won by four wickets.
