COMMITTEE MEETING. The Committee of the above Club .met at Mclntosh’s Club rooms at 8.35 last evening. Present; Messrs AY. E. Williams (chair), M. H. Houston, It. While,y, A. AV,. Ynrrnll, C. J. I>. Sellers, J. J. Mclntosh, F. McGregor, J. Peake .and D. J. -Evans. The absence of Air -C. Neville was apologised tor. CORRESPONDENCE. The Sports Protection League wrote in respect to racing taxation and urged representations to the Government on tlie matter.—-Received.
The N.Z. Racing Conference outlined •the Stipendiary Stewards’ report oil last race meeting; notified alterations in the rules; intimated special Conference meeting on 10th. prox to elect Executive Committee; levied for £3O 4s 5d for Conference fees; circularised in regard to admission tickets.—Received. It was explained that a new ticket for admission had been designed to regulate and control undesirable patrons, ■ and to enforce a special check on all admissions. The correspondence -was referred to the Secretary. RE-BUILDING SCHEME. Mr D. Stevenson was present by invitation and oxplainicd proposals for moving the outside stand, adding administrative quarters and tea-room, with extra stand accommodation over the administrative quarters. He estimated the cost of the work proposed ,jn regard to the buildings in order to meet bare requirements at £930. The interior alterations to the stand, to provide a second circular bar and other conveniences, would be extra.
Tlie matter was discussed at 'some length, and ultimately it was decided to arrange with Mi- Stevenson to carry -out the work by day labour, the Club to provide the material. The work to be put in hand as soon as possible. The stand will be raised and a filling approach on a -grade will be arranged for. CHRISTMAS MEETING. The proposal fro-m the annual meeting to take action with regard to the Christmas meeting elsewhere was discussed. Attc'r consideration, it', was-r-esolved that the meeting be held as usual on the local course, and the necessary steps be taken to prepare for the meeting. ■ .
The programme was considered and it was resolved to provide for seven events each day on the lines of the successful meeting last Christmas, the stakes to be £1,500. It was decided to make arrangements with Messrs Lynch’ for the conduct of the totalisator. The Secret-airy was authorised to make enquiry regarding necessary- plant including new starting machine and other necessaries to replace the plant -lost in the fire. CLUB OFFICIALS. A proposal was made to make an appeal to the townspeople for an increased membership to tide over the Club’s present difficulties. Any intending new members will be- invited to notify any member of the Committee. It was indicated that country patrons would he welcomed as members.. The annual subscription to the Club is £2 2s. It was decided to write the Borough Council in respect to a water supply for fire purposes, 'suggesting a short section of enlarged pipe from the main entering the town at the racecourse hill, in Hampden Street. The matter of employing labour for the rebuilding scheme was left in the hands of the builder, Mr D. Steven-
It was reported the racing track and, grounds were in good order, and the Caretaker would lie able to assist with the new work connected with alterations about to bo put in hand.
It was decided to defer the matter of providing a stewards’ luncheon and refreshment room for the present, with a view of saving expense. The meeting concluded at 10 p.m.
