Democracy has control of the Government, it is the social status of the people that concerns us. That is the explanation of the rise ol Labour in politics. It is with the relations of employer to employed, with the relative burdens of workers and shareholds, with the distribution of taxation, with the educational opportunities of the people, with the care of the aged and the blind and the sick and lame and with suchlike issues that we are going to he chiefly concerned in future. The old party alignment will not serve. There must, ho new adjustments, and if there are wise heads in the Liberal and Deform groups they will apply themselves very seriously to the consideration of these problems, so that New Zealand may not he allowed to drift into dangerous waters. — “Lyttelton Times.”
