BOWLING.
DOMINION ASSOCIATION. WELLINGTON, Sept. 4. At the annual meeting of the Dominion Bowling Association the following remits were carried:—• Air Okey (Christchurch) moved;--“That, in tbe champion rinks competi tion, two games of twenty-five heads he played each day for four days.” The mover put in a strong plea for two games n day, as the three games made it altogether too strenuous. On the motion being put, it was carried without a dissentient voice.
Air Gladding (Auckland) moved;— “That tbe order of play for tho tournament bo the same as last year, viz., singles, rinks and nail's, post section play in tbe singles and pairs to he deferred until after tho section play in tbe rinks.” Air Marlow seconded tbe motion, and said that flic system curtailed the tournament by a day and a half. By any other rcystem 75 per cent of the players would he walking about for two or three days in the middle of the tournament.
Mr Fustier, also thought tho system the best that had been evolved. It was tried during the visit of the British howlers, and it had'proved to he the best, insofar as it was tbe only system which had permitted them to dean up in schedule time. The motion wos carried. It was decided that the tournament should commence with the singles on Monday, January 7, the rinks to commence on Wednesday, January 9, and 11 10 pairs on Monday, January 14. Two days were allotted to the pairs. It was decided that preference be given to rinks in post-section play. The singles are to bo played on tbe automatic two-life system.
Air Marlow moved that the pairs be played as last year, with the alteration that the section tics be included in post-section play in games of twentyone heads, to he decided on the sudden death principle. This was approved. The matter of the establishment of a benevolent fund for the benefit of widows and orphans of howlers and of indigent howlers was rejected. Several members of the council spoke in favour of arranging a visit to the Australian States of an official New Zealand team. It was given out that if such a team were formed, there would be plenty of applicants from all parts of New Zealand. The following new rule was passed:— “The council or any centre shall have power on inquiry' to disqualify or suspend either temporarily or permanently any member of a club affiliated to the association or any centre who may ho found guilty of unfair play of wilfully altering a bowl after it is stamped by the official bowl tester of such association or centre, of using profane, indecent or improper language at any function of such association, centre or club, or during any game or oti the property of any club, of betting on the result of a game in which ho is a player, or at any such function or game or on any such property in the opinion of the centre or council misconducts himself.”
