dairy CONTROL CONIi’EREXCh WELLINGTON, September 5.

Upon his attention being drawn to a statement made at Pahiatun by .Mr •I. G. Breechiii, a Director of the National Dairy Association. .Mr W. A. lores (Chairman of the Dairy Hoard) made the following statement:—ln •Inly 1927 the Dairy Associations asked from the Dairy Hoard the sum of £430(1 lor attending to shipping details at Auckland, New Plymouth, and South Island ports. Under pressure they finally agreed to do the work lor WoOD. On the lltli July. 1928. they quoted C 3500 for attending to the work for another twelve months, the Hoard to defer its decision for one month. During that month the Dairy Association liceiune aware that a section of the Hoard favoured the Hoard doing its own shipping work. As n result, and quite obviously a desperate attempt was made to retain the work themselves, and the Associations submitted mi amended quotation, reducing their price from £3500, which they had .submitted the previous month, to £2OOO, a reduction of over 40 per cent. The estimate, of the cost of the Hoard’s own offices for attending to the slopping work is less than was being paid to the Dairy Association, and less than tile quotation received from them until .such time as they considered they were in danger of losing the work. Further, the decision reached removes the Hoard from the danger of being over-charged, as has been the case in the past.
